Kazanjian, an assistant professor at the American University of Armenia (AUA), will present a paper titled, “How Citizen Science Empowers Water Stewardship: Stories from the EU Mission Ocean OTTERS project,” as part of the session on citizen science, ocean digitization, and capacity building on June 3, 2025, at the Digital Ocean Pavilion.

OTTERS will moderate a workshop on Scaling up Citizen Science efforts on the 2nd day (November 6, 10:30-12:00 CET) of the Plastic Pirates Summit 2024.

During the workshop, the OTTERS Project will showcase the efforts undertaken to scale up citizen science initiatives under the umbrella of the Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters’ objectives and demonstrate the OTTERS’ role in doing this. As part of scaling-up efforts, the workshop participants will be introduced to the Semflow (short for “Semantic Flow Knowledge Hub”) tool – a model of the semantic data flow of waste. Through the co-design activities during the workshop, the speakers will collect and identify the gaps impacting the sustainability of water-related citizen science projects.
